Luciano Spalletti has confirmed that he will be leaving Napoli this summer: ‘Sometimes we break up due to too much love.’ Rumours in the Italian press have continued to suggest that Spalletti was unhappy with the way his contract extension with the club was handled, prompting a breakdown in relations between him and club president Aurelio De Laurentiis.
The 64-year-old has now effectively confirmed that his time in Naples is over for now, and that he won’t be coaching anywhere for the 2023-24 season:
“Sometimes we break up due to too much love. Right now I’m not able to give Napoli everything it deserves. I need to rest. I feel tired. I need to disconnect for a bit. I will not coach Napoli or any other team. I will take a break for a year.”
