Italian midfielder Marco Verratti is reportedly considering leaving Paris Saint-Germain this summer after 11 seasons with the club. The 30-year-old joined Les Parisiens in 2012 after impressing with Serie B side Pescara, and has gone on to become a key architect in PSG’s continued success over the years.
A string of poor performances in the current campaign has raised eyes among the clubs fans, prompting increasing criticism of the Italian international.
French newspaper L’Équipe now report that Verratti is giving serious consideration to leaving Paris, despite having signed a new contract last year that runs until 2026.
The report outlines how the midfielder is frustrated at the lack of leadership in the dressing room, highlighting former teammate Zlatan Ibrahimović as one of the figures that Verratti misses having around.
There’s also a suggestion that PSG are ‘unimpressed’ by Verratti’s return from the World Cup break, while the player believes the recent fan protests against the club and team are unjust.
L’Équipe claim that the Italian international has already spoken with PSG management regarding a possible move, with the suggestion being that club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi does not want the player to leave, while sporting advisor Luís Campos would not stand in Verratti’s way.
A number of Saudi Arabian clubs are interested in Verratti but the player is reportedly more interested in a return to Italy.
