Inzaghi: ‘We have an obligation to finish in the top 4’

Start

Simone Inzaghi believes Inter have an ‘obligation’ to finish in the top four each season following their 5-0 rout of Hellas Verona. It was a return to form for the Nerazzurri who have won their last four games in a row in all competitions, putting them firmly back on course for a Champions League spot next season. Speaking with Sky Sport after the game (as quoted by FCInternews), Inzaghi explained what has changed in recent weeks, focusing on their ability to score goals as a contributing factor to their good run of form:

Twelve goals in the last three games, you have no middle ground. Has everything clicked?

“We are playing well, we are in a good moment and we have recovered important men. The results are coming, I’m happy but we have to continue. In 72 hours we take on Roma and we have to prepare a great game. Today we were extraordinary against a team that in 2023 had only lost to Fiorentina. We had a very good approach.”

Now you have an advantage for the Champions League race.

“We have an obligation to finish in the top four. The schedule is not super easy but the pitfalls are beyond the schedule. We all have very difficult matches but we are happy with the moment.”

How come Acerbi always plays? Does he risk fewer injuries than Bastoni?

“I’ve known Francesco for a very long time, he has great concentration and keeps it for more matches. Against Lazio he had made a mistake but I preferred to let him play. Alessandro however gives great reliability.”

What is the most significant improvement?

“The main thing is to have scored. Against Salernitana and Fiorentina we failed to score but the way we were on the pitch, a point in two games was not deserved. But that’s football, games have to be unlocked and won. The early goal helped us but the approach was great.”

Did you already have it in your mind that this was a decisive month?

“We had hopes of getting back to the Italian Cup final and making the Champions League semifinals. I have great professionals with me who help me in everything and keep the team in the best way until the end of the season. We have straightened out the standings but we must not stop, we must think one match at a time without thinking about the next one.”
