Juventus are expected to appoint a new sporting director in the coming months, while Max Allegri’s position is safe for the moment. That’s according to Goal Italia journalist Romeo Agresti, who was speaking on Radio Live Bianconera about the Old Lady’s current situation. There’s been fresh criticism of Allegri this week, following Juve’s disappointing 1-0 defeat to Inter in the Coppa Italia. The poor performance and elimination from the competition means La Vecchia Signora have managed just one win in their last seven games in all competitions.
Speaking on Live Bianconera, Agresti explained that Juve’s current priority is to appoint a new sporting director, and while there have been a number of names mentioned, there is still no clear favourite at the club, despite being linked with Napoli’s Cristiano Giuntoli and Milan’s Ricky Massara.
Agresti also commented on the future of a number of out-of-contract players, saying that it would be a ‘surprise’ to see Adrien Rabiot agree a contract extension, but Alex Sandro’s new deal is a ‘formality’, while Juan Cuadrado is expected to depart this summer.
Allegri has been the subject of much debate between Juventus supporters this season, but Agresti pointed to the coaches expensive contract which doesn’t end until 2025, suggesting that his future is ‘clear’ for the moment, with even failure to qualify for the Champions League unlikely to impact his status at the club.
Finally, the name of Antonio Conte was once again mentioned as a potential replacement for Allegri, with the journalist commenting that ‘everyone returns to Juventus: it wouldn’t surprise me if Antonio Conte were to return to the Bianconeri one day.’
