Inter release statement in support of Romelu Lukaku

Start

Inter have released a statement in support of Romelu Lukaku after the striker saw his appeal against a Coppa Italia ban rejected by the FIGC. The Belgian forward celebrated after scoring a late equaliser for the Nerazzurri in the first-leg in Turin, but was dismissed for a second booking. Lukaku was the subject of racist abuse from parts of the Juventus Curva Sud for large parts of the match and celebrated in their direction, being sent off straight after.

The FIGC court of appeal elected to confirm his one-match ban, meaning he will miss the second-leg of the match at San Siro on April 26. Inter released their statement earlier today, confirming their support of the player in this difficult moment:

The FIGC’s National Court of Appeal today confirmed the suspension of Romelu Lukaku, who will be unable to participate in Wednesday’s Coppa Italia semi-final.
FC Internazionale Milano feels it must consolidate its support for the player and expresses great sorrow at the fact that the victim has become the only guilty party.
