Acerbi: ‘The hope is to stay at Inter’

Start

Inter defender Francesco Acerbi has featured heavily for the Nerazzurri so far this term and has made 20 appearances in Serie A, starting in all four of their last games in the league. He believes that the club have had ‘too many ups and downs in the league’ and ‘could have had 10, 11 or 12 points’ more in the Serie A standings. The 35-year-old, speaking with DAZN, as quoted by La Gazzetta dello Sport, he discussed the recent defeat in the Derby d’Italia against Juventus, his relationship with coach Simone Inzaghi and his future with Inter.

On Filip Kostic’s goal and the defeat to Juventus:

“He was spoiled by his hand, but they (Juventus) interpreted the game better. They deservedly won. Maybe I’m convinced they never scored goals, however they were more convincing and balanced on the pitch. We need to learn from mistakes. This episode can be a stimulus for the semi-final of the Coppa Italia.”

On his relationship with Simone Inzaghi:

“I’m not the type of footballer who binds to the coach. The coach is the coach, period. I greet him, I appreciate him because he wanted me at Lazio and Inter. I’ve always given what I’ve received. But if I suck, it’s right that he doesn’t let me play. I do everything to be able to play but the coach has to make his own choices and you have to respect them.”

On his Inter future:

“The hope is to stay at Inter, the hope is there. These are two important months, I’m trying to do my best and what will happen, I don’t even know what will happen on August 31st. I feel great at Inter, but it’s not up to me: if it were up to me I’d stay here without any problems. But I don’t want to rush and the management knows it.”
