The Nicolo Zaniolo drama continues and the 23-year-old has now spoke out since his transfer from Roma to Galatasaray earlier this year. In an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Italian international revealed all, including contract issues, the response from the Giallorossi fans and his teammates.
“I could talk hours about broken promises. They (Roma) told me I was a star, but I was always considered just a capital gain.”
“For two years I was told that the new contract was ready. In January last year I would have signed for a little more than I was earning, because in Rome I was fine and I knew there were problems with Financial Fair Play. After so much talk I got fed up. If I have to reflect on my goodbye, I think others have to do it too.”
“My former teammates disappointed me. I don’t name names, but they said we were like brothers and then they didn’t even come and say goodbye.”
“Actually, it wasn’t just Bournemouth and Galatasaray, but I was kicked out for not accepting the English club and the fans took it out on me. Some chased me with their cars, others came to my house. My family and I also felt scared because we were lonely. I also turned off my phone because I was receiving threatening messages.”
“No one knows the future, but in Turkey I want to win and return to the national team. I can’t guarantee that I will stay at Galatasaray until the end of the contract. I preferred Gala to Fenerbahce. Fenerbahce wanted me too, but I gave my word to Galatasaray. I want to win SüperLig and Türkiye Kupası”.
