Darmian: ‘It’s a defeat that hurts’

Start

Inter defender Matteo Darmian says he and his teammates take responsibility for the defeat to Juventus, but ‘It’s definitely a defeat that hurts.’ The match was decided by a contentious Filip Kostic goal that may have had a handball in the build-up. Speaking with DAZN (as quoted by FCInternews) after the game, Darmian expressed his dissatisfaction at the result, but refused to be drawn into the controversy over Juve’s goal:

“It is definitely a defeat that hurts. We wanted to do well against Juve, who played a good game. We could have done better, we take responsibility for this as for the other defeats in the league, we have to improve because for Inter nine defeats is a lot. We will try to recover with the break and finish the championship in the best way.

“The goal we conceded? It’s an event that weighs heavily at the end of the game, because from that incident, the goal was scored. That’s all I have to say, it went badly for us and that’s all we can do. We lick our wounds, but the images are quite clear.”

“The Azzurri? Being called up makes me very proud, I’m glad to be back.

“The lack of energy? One saw an Inter team with little energy in ball possession. We could have done better with the ball and put Juve in difficulty. They did not leave us so many spaces, we have to improve on this aspect.

“The Kostic goal? You have to be very lucid on the field to decide in fractions of a second, sometimes you make the right choice sometimes you make a mistake. We could have moved better in that department, Dumfries followed Vlahovic’s cutback and I tried to get on Kostic’s cutback. Then he produced a nice shot, it was unstoppable for Onana.”
