Paul Pogba could be set to miss up to another month of the season after his latest injury setback, with Juve growing ever more frustrated with the situation. The 29-year-old pulled up in training with a suspected muscle injury ahead of the Bianconeri’s 4-2 win over Sampdoria last night, and was once again absent for the match.
La Gazzetta dello Sport report that ‘Polpo’ would be set to miss at least a month of the campaign, which would mean he’s missed three quarters of the Serie A season to date.
The French midfielder underwent scans earlier today, with Juventus expected to release a statement on his latest setback. Coach Max Allegri shed light on the issue last night, saying:
“He stopped again due to an adductor problem and will be assessed this morning: examinations will clarify the extent of the new muscle trouble. A strain is feared, which could keep him out for another month.”
“While he was kicking penalties he felt a discomfort and stopped. The other day he had a good training session, he could give us a hand. But we’ll wait for him, it’s a year like this, these things also happen in life. He must be good and strong to get back up and want to be the player he was before.
Pogba has now missed 34 games out of 37, playing only 35′ minutes in total this season, having been called three times and spending the entirety of the match against Monza on the bench,
Gazzetta suggest Juve are not only worried but also annoyed at the latest setback, having invested heavily in him and taking advantage of the opportunity to sign him for free last summer, guaranteeing him a rich and long contract. Pogba currently earned €8m per season plus €2m in bonuses for 4 years (until 2026), the same amount that Juventus had decided to pay Dybala before changing their mind and not renewing his contract.
The old Juve management had tried an approach Pogba to entertain the idea of renouncing some of the team bonuses this season, those that everyone gets even without playing, but were not successful. The new one management board could come back to the idea, especially if this latest spell on the sidelines is a lengthy one.
