Juventus winger Angel Di Maria has confirmed that he’s in talks with the Bianconeri over a contract extension next season. The Argentine has just three months left to run on his existing deal with the Old Lady, but has greatly impressed the management and fans since his return from the World Cup, scoring his fourth Europa League goal in two games last night in Juve’s 1-0 win over Freiburg.
Speaking after the game (as quoted by Fabrizio Romano), Di Maria expressed his happiness at being in Turin and confirmed that talks are underway on an extension:
“I felt a little annoyance in my leg, it’s normal fatigue, we’re playing a lot of games. The important thing was to win. I’ll help the team until the end. The Europa League and the Coppa Italia are two important goals for us. My future? We are talking about it with Juventus. I am happy here, I feel the affection of the people and they are showing it to me. They are happy and I am happy, this is important.”
A report from this morning’s Gazzetta dello Sport suggests that Di Maria is edging closer and closer to agreeing terms on a new deal. The player is reportedly very happy in Italy and his family has settled well in Turin. The affection of the Juventus fans and the esteem of the Juve staff and management has also played an important role in convincing Il Fideo to remain with the Bianconeri for another season. An official announcement is expected in the coming months.
