Allegri: ‘We wasted chances against Freiburg’

Start

Massimiliano Allegri believes his team performed well in their 1-0 win over Freiburg but they wasted chances to kill the game off. The Bianconeri were the better of the two sides and found themselves in front of goal on a number of occasions, but their finishing ultimately let them down. Speaking in his post-match press conference (as quoted by TuttoJuve), Allegri expressed his satisfaction with the overall performance but conceded that his team should have gotten more from the game:

Are there regrets over the first half ?

“One thing we have to improve on is the realisation of goal chances, we have to be more lucid. We had two situations in the second half in the open field, one Kean delayed and Chiesa too. Another one for Di Maria. Other situations, you have to go alone in front of the goalkeeper. A good performance, luckily there was a handball for their cancelled goal. We have to be confident, we have to play on Sunday against Samp, very important, we have to come back and win at home and take the three points”.

Satisfied with Vlahovic and Miretti?

“Miretti has returned and played 45 very good minutes. Vlahovic I am happy with because he is much better physically and maybe he will score on Sunday. That’s what happens with forwards.

In the second half you dropped the performance level…

“We played a good game, with great intensity. The team showed that it was fine physically, we wasted a lot compared to what we created”.

Worried about Chiesa’s condition?

“We’ll see, because at the moment we can’t know anything”.

How is the team? An opinion on Bonucci?

“As far as Bonucci is concerned he had a good game. Alex Sandro had a different leg flexor to the one he had a problem with. During the season these injuries happen, the important thing is that we maintain this availability. Sunday is decisive for the standings. For the match against Sampdoria we have to prepare well, we have to arrive on Sunday evening much angrier than tonight’.

After the latest news about the points penalty, what mood is there in the dressing room?

“As far as the news is concerned it doesn’t concern us, because the club will take care of that. We think about working well in the championship, we broke the streak with the defeat in Rome. And we have to resume it. We have to work on the 50 points, we are momentarily three points from the Champions League. We have to think about the pitch and the club will defend itself in the appropriate places.”

Cramp for Di Maria?

“He felt a cramp, we’ll see tomorrow. He played 90 minutes of intensity.”

What kind of team is Freiburg?

“It’s a tough opponent. They will be difficult at home, but we have our chances to play our cards.”

Can you tell us where you heard Chiesa hurt?

“I can’t say because as soon as he came back the anti-doping testers took him and I didn’t even see him.”

How do you assess Kean’s entry onto the pitch?

“In that situation tonight he didn’t make a mistake, but he delayed a play. On Sunday he fell like a chicken, like Di Maria at Monza. When you play with certain players you have to be alert, you fall for provocations. It’s part of football, he came in very well. He sacrificed a lot and played well. Pogba, today I think he arrived on time for the start of the game and we’re counting on him as on all the others. I have youngsters, tonight Fagioli played an excellent game as always lately, we have many players who will give a hand like everyone else”.
