Inter to look to Scamacca as Dzeko replacement

Start

A report from La Gazzetta dello Sport claims Inter are looking to sign West Ham striker Gianluca Scamacca as a replacement for Edin Dzeko. The Nerazzurri were closely linked with the Italian international last summer, shortly before his eventual transfer to the Hammers in a £35 million move.

La Gazzetta report that Inter have decided to put a halt on contract renewals for now in a bid to focus on the final few months of the campaign and ‘accelerate’ on their remaining targets for the season. The suggestion is that talks with numerous players over new deals will resume when the season is concluded and the clubs ‘strategies’ are clearer.

Among those is Dzeko, who Inter have offered a one year contract renewal, with the Bosnian striker wanting at least a two year extension. Gazzetta claim that talks between the two parties are on hold and they have not spoken since January in relation to a new contract.

The club and the player’s entourage had agreed to meet in the spring for an update but in the background, the player is still reportedly keen on spending a few seasons in MLS before he retires from the game.

Inter could take Dzeko’s departure as an opportunity to ‘revolutionize’ their attack, and among those linked is Scamacca, a player the club have pursued since his time at Sassuolo.

Gazzetta claim that despite an encouraging start to his time at West Ham, things have gotten ‘complicated’ for Scamacca in 2023, given that he last started a game for the Hammers on 4 January against Leeds, scoring in a 2-2 draw.

The suggestion is that the Italian striker wants to ‘relaunch’ his career in an effort to remain part of Azzurri coach Roberto Mancini’s plans for the national side, and Inter could offer him the right opportunity to do so.
