Matias Vecino was pleased with goal but happier with Lazio’s solid defensive display in their 1-0 win over Napoli: ‘We needed a performance like that’. The Uruguayan midfielder scored the only goal of the night, a rocket of a shot from outside the box, and speaking with DAZN and Lazio Style Channel (as quoted by LaLazioSiamoNoi) after the match, he expressed his happiness with his strike, but why winning is all that mattered against the Partenopei:
“We needed a performance like that, of defensive attention. In some moments we suffered but we were good at staying lucid and at the first opportunity we got it in, that’s how it is in these matches.
“I’m trying my best, I played many years in a two-man midfield, now in front of the defence is a role I like to play, I try to adapt. At the end I didn’t want to change position because I was afraid we would lose balance, instead it went well. For us every point is life, winning here must give us the awareness that we can play against anyone. Whoever makes the fewest mistakes will qualify for the Champions League.
“My goal? I tried to kick it hard so as not to restart their counterattack, it was a nice goal, the important thing is that we won and bring home the three points”
“I watched the goal again, it was nice. It bounced at the right time, I went with force, I’m happy, it’s a great victory. When you get to the edge of the area you have to finish the play, luckily it went in and we bring home a great win.
“We knew we needed a great performance and game to try to limit them, at certain times it’s normal to suffer but we did well. Today was another game without conceding goals and we bring three points home.
“These are the decisive moments, the Conference League is a good goal for us, but we think game after game. This victory gives us even more strength for what is to come.
“Am I decisive in the important matches? This year I was also very unlucky, I missed several chances, but I knew that sooner or later I would score, it happened to me several times when I was at Inter, I hope to do it here too. Let’s think now about Tuesday, so far the team is well physically and we have recovered several players, it will be up to the coach to manage the strengths of each of us but we will be ready”.
