Napoli coach Luciano Spalletti had regrets about his teams performance in their 1-0 defeat to Lazio: ‘You can’t create 500 chances a game’. The Partenopei dominated the match but a wonderful solo strike from Matias Vecino was enough to consign them to only their second league defeat of the season to date. Despite the loss, Spalletti was pleased with his teams attitude and application in the game, as he explained to DAZN (as quoted by TuttoNapoli) :
“We found a team that was very precise in covering spaces, in our chances to go in the centre of the pitch. They left us uncovered on the flanks, we went to play there, there were chances to make plays to create problems, but we were not good at making choices.
“Several times we released Lobotka from the defensive line but we made bad decisions. The draw was the correct and fairest outcome. Its happened to us a few times that we didn’t settle for a draw and we ended up winning, tonight it was bad and we accept it.
“Regrets? There is always regret. There was a spectacular crowd reaction, it’s important to see certain attitudes because you must never think you don’t have to work hard in certain games. I didn’t see that, in the locker room everyone’s heads were down because they’re so sorry. I saw commitment and application.
“The match didn’t seem to be changed by those who came on from the bench for quality of play, but it can happen. It’s very difficult to come on and change the game, it has happened to us many times. Tonight those who came in adapted a little bit to the flow of the game. We could have done something better in the quality of the passing.
“Did I expect such a close game? I said it yesterday, that they would defend well. They were good at closing down many situations, they are very good at closing down low balls.”
“Could something have been done differently in the offensive phase? You can’t create five hundred chances in a match, if I list them I can think of at least ten dangerous ones. Maybe there was a bit of frenzy, but I saw all healthy stuff, of players who had the right intentions.
“How do we resume? The same way we always do, but I have no doubt that there will be the right attitude. It shows me how they came back into the dressing room, we will work and analyse the match.”
