Milan linked with Mauro Icardi move

Start

Milan are being linked with a move for Argentine striker Mauro Icardi but face competition from Turkish giants Galatasaray. The 30-year-old is currently on loan at Gala from Paris Saint-Germain and has rediscovered his form in front of goal, scoring nine goals and providing six assists in 12 appearances in the Turkish league.

Calciomercato report that the Turkish club and their fans are ‘in love’ with the former Inter man and are keen to buy him outright from the French champions at the end of the season. Despite their interest, the Argentine’s plans reportedly lie elsewhere, with Calciomercato suggesting his desire is to return to Italy for the 2023-24 season.

According to their report, Icardi is sending a message, albeit ‘indirectly’ to the Rossoneri, knowing they are looking for a new number nine next season, and his rich vein of form is gaining their attention.

Calciomercato suggest that the relationship between Milan directors Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara and Icardi’s entourage is ‘excellent’ and  exploratory talks are expected to talk place, even if no direct contact has been made to date.

Icardi has already worked with Milan coach Stefano Pioli and has the characteristics that the Rossoneri are looking for in the market. There’s also the prospect that Icardi could ‘free’ himself of his deal with PSG, despite having a contract with them until 2024. The prospect of a mutual agreement on a contract termination would allow the Parisians to save on his salary and free the Argentine to move back to Milan.
