Zaniolo included in UEFA squad but out for a month

Start

Roma forward Nicolo Zaniolo will be included in the clubs UEFA squad for the Europa League but will miss the next month of training. The 23-year-old was expected to leave the club in January after a very public falling out with the management and supporters, which culminated in the player being threatened outside his home by ultras.

Il Corriere dello Sport now report that despite reports to the contrary, Zaniolo will be included in the clubs UEFA list, but merely as a formality as he is still considered to be ‘outside’ the clubs plans for the season.

Zaniolo is also expected to miss at least the next month due to medical reasons related to his absence from the capital in the last week. On 31 January, Zaniolo sent Roma a medical certificate for  ‘psychological discomfort’ that will not allow him to train at the Fulvio Bernardini training ground for a month, due to the fans’ aggression and the whole situation that has erupted since his transfer request.

Today the striker underwent a medical check-up that confirmed his psychological malaise. In the coming weeks Zaniolo will undergo a new check-up, and then the parties will decide on a new path to return to training.
