Florian Thauvin to sign for Udinese imminently

Start

Florian Thauvin is expected to be confirmed as an Udinese player by the end of the day.

Thauvin, 30, saw his contract with Mexican team Tigres UNAL terminated last week. The club needed to clear space in the squad in order to register new signing Nicolás Ibáñez. The Frenchman last played in Europe during 2020/21 for Olympique de Marseille.

Udinese made contact with Thauvin in recent days after it was revealed that Gerard Deulofeu will undergo knee surgery. Personal terms have already been agreed and, according to Gianluca Di Marzio, Thauvin has already arrived in Italy ahead of medical tests.

His medical procedure and official documentation is expected to be completed by this evening or tomorrow.

The Frenchman last played in Europe during 2020/21 for Olympique de Marseille. Thauvin specifically enjoyed three prolific seasons during his eight-year stint at Marseille, in which he made ten appearances for the national team and helped the country lift the 2018 World Cup.

He scored 71 goals in all competitions for Marseille and scored eight goals in 38 Liga MX appearances for Tigres.

The contract-length is as of yet unconfirmed, but the right-winger has been signed merely to aid the team during Deulofeu’s absence. Greek side Olympiacos were also reported to be very keen to sign Thauvin.
