Naples Prosecutor asks for six-month extension in Osimhen investigation

Start

La Repubblica report that the Naples Public Prosecutor’s Office has requested a six-month extension in their investigation into Victor Osimhen’s transfer from Lille to Napoli. The Nigerian international made the €70m move in 2020 but the deal raised eyebrows as €20m of the transfer was made up of player exchanges.

La Repubblica now report that the Naples Public Prosecutor’s Office wants an additional six months to complete the investigation into the move as the four players Napoli exchanged are believed to have had inflated values. Orestis Karnezis, who was 35 at the time of the deal, was valued at €21m. Napoli youth players Claudio Manzi, Luigi Liguori and Ciro Palmieri were also part of the exchange, although all went on to leave Lille by mutual consent, having never played a game for the club.

Francesco De Falco, the prosecutor in the case, believes that the deal may have resulted in Napoli producing false communications in their financial statements for July 2020 to June 2021, based on the Osimhen transfer.

If the investigation unearths new evidence, the Partenopei could see the case against them reopened in the same way that Juventus have.
