Nicolo Zaniolo will not be part of Roma’s squad to face Spezia this weekend after the player refused to be called up. The winger is reportedly on the transfer market after asking the club to sell him during the January window with Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur following him closely.
The club have now confirmed that Zaniolo is not part of the team that will travel to face Spezia tomorrow, but the player isn’t suffering from an injury. According to Sportface, Zaniolo made the decision not to be available for the callup, a move that was not decided with the blessing of the club.
It puts more pressure on the Giallorossi who are looking to sell the young star this month, rather than lose him for a reduced fee in June. Spurs are reportedly the club most closely linked with Zaniolo, however Leeds United are also following the players situation in Rome.
The 23-year-old has had a mixed season to date, spending part of it out with injury and managing just two goals in all competitions for Roma.
