Premier League side Aston Villa are preparing an official approach for Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie, according to a report.
Villa have been linked with a move for McKennie, 24, since the beginning of the window, as previously reported by Foot Italia. Bournemouth, Fulham, and Tottenham Hotspur were also said to be interested in signing the USMNT international.
McKennie is alleged to not be keen on moves which would regress his career away from the Champions League, but is tempted by Unai Emery’s new project in Birmingham. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, it is becoming more likely that McKennie will leave Turin in January as Villa ready themselves to open formal negotiations.
Juve are seeking a fee in the region of €30m, but are keen to offload the midfielder this January. The club want to extend Adrien Rabiot’s contract and Massimiliano Allegri is willing to hand Fabio Miretti and Nicolò Fagioli more first team action.
Fabrizio Romano also provided his own update on McKennie’s situation a two days ago. Speaking to CBS Sports Golazo, Romano said:
“Let’s see what happens with McKennie because they had some conversations with Aston Villa, with other English clubs.
At the moment, Juventus have not received any official bids yet, but for McKennie, it’s a possibility to leave the club in January.”
