The Italian Football Federation has confirmed that its prosecutor has asked to revoke the verdict that cleared Juventus and nine other teams of inflating transfer fees for capital gains. Eleven clubs in total were initially cleared in April of this year, namely Juventus, Napoli, Chievo, Sampdoria, Pro Vercelli, Genoa, Parma, Pisa, Empoli, Novara, Pescara, following a ruling from the magistrate who believed it was impossible to judge the value of a player in the transfer market, beyond the agreed value between two clubs.
The FIGC has now announced an appeal against the decision, following the uncovering of new evidence by the Turin public prosecutors office as part of the Prisma investigation into Juventus.
The evidence includes wiretaps where Juventus directors discussed ‘plusvalenze’ (Capital gains) in their conversations with one another, where they appear to acknowledge that the players values were inflated.
Previously released wiretaps seem to implicate former Juve director Fabio Paratici of using this practice, however the FIGC is not appealing the verdict that cleared both Napoli and Chievo as they did not do any deals with the Bianconeri.
