Former Lazio coach Sven-Goran Eriksson has paid tribute to Siniša Mihajlović, calling him a ‘winner’ who helped everyone in the team. The two famously worked together at Lazio where they won the Serie A title in 1999, as well as the UEFA Cup and Coppa Italia. Speaking about the tragic passing of Mihajlović, Eriksson recalled their time together at Sampdoria and Lazio:
“Sinisa was a winning player. Coming second did not exist for him. He was a generous and very intelligent player. He helped everyone in the team, especially the younger ones. Today is a sad day. He was a great coach already when he was a player. He and Mancini talked a lot: they were two coaches on the field. Sinisa was positive, cheerful always. It was a huge pleasure to work with him. We were very different in character, but he like all his teammates always respected me. That was the secret of our team, everyone was fighting for a common goal: victory.”
