Allegri and Cherubini were ready to resign

Start

A new report from La Gazzetta dello Sport suggests Massimiliano Allegri and Federico Cherubini were set to resign from their roles at Juventus but the club rejected the decision. It follows the news that all of the Juventus board of directors chose to resign en masse in the wake of ongoing investigations into player salaries and the inflated values of certain transfer dealings.

Gazzetta journalist Filippo Cornacchia writes that the news came as a shock to the team who only found out the details through Agnelli’s letter which was sent to employees of the club.

Allegri and  Cherubini made it clear to Agnelli on Monday night that they too were ready to resign if necessary, however the former president urged the sporting director and coach not only to stay but also to end the season with a trophy. Exor chairman John Elkann also expressed his wishes that the pair remain at the club, at least until the summer, in an effort to retain some continuity in the sporting department.

Cherubini and Allegri met with new director Maurizio Scanavino yesterday as well as spending long periods on the phone with the senior members of the Juve squad in an effort to explain the situation and turn off any alarmism. The gesture was reportedly appreciated by many players who, partly because of the distance and partly because of the uncontrolled messages on social media, felt the need to understand and be reassured.

Gazzetta suggest that there will be no further changes with regards to the transfer market and he budget will remain the same for the same objectives: to focus on buying a new full-back and deal with any potential sales.
