Ahead of La Dea’s signifcant clash against Lazio this weekend in match-week eleven of the Serie A, Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners spoke about the club’s aspirations following their impeccable start to the campaign.
As things currently stand within the league, Gasperini’s side sit in second place within the league, with only two points separating them from the league-leaders Napoli.
The black and blue of Bergamo have maintained an undefeated status within their first ten games of the season, conceding only six goals in order to make themselves the second best defensive Italian outfits thus far.
Speaking to Milan-based journal La Gazzetta dello Sport, via Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, the 24 year-old spoke about his club’s chances of winning the scudetto and desires for the season:
Why not? We are just at the beginning and anything can happen. Any athlete if things are going well tends to look up and not down. But it is also true that there are better equipped teams.
We must try to the end to achieve a return to Europe. Possibly in the Champions League, because it has a different flavour.”
So far this season, the Dutch international has played flawlessly under Gasperini as he has featured in every minute of the campaign, amassing a total of four goals and an assist for the Lombardy club.
