Juventus are set to extend the contract of veteran centre-back Leonardo Bonucci, keeping him at the club for another year. The 35-year-old has a deal in place with the Bianconeri until June 2024, but recent reports have suggested he was unhappy in Turin and looking to move on.
Rumours reported by Sportmediaset and others had suggested that the Juve captain was looking to leave the club as early as next January due to his frosty relations with coach Max Allegri.
Goal Italia’s Romeo Agresti now reports that Juventus are looking to extend his contract by another year, which will keep him with the club until 2025, when he will be 38.
Allegri addressed the reports of Bonucci wanting to leave in his pre-match presser yesterday, insisting that he still has an important role to play at the club:
“Leonardo is the team’s captain, a player with personality who I must manage like everyone else. He is a crucial player, whether he plays or not. It’s a general path that involves everyone, at 35, you don’t have the energy as when you were 20. I am happy with Leo, he is a responsible man and an added value, whether he plays or not.”
