Brighton and Netherlands goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen has been tipped as a potential replacement for AC Milan captain Mike Maignan ahead of the summer transfer window.
Milan Interested In Brighton’s Verbruggen
Reputable Italian news outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport are reporting that AC Milan see Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen as a potential replacement for Mike Maignan amid the Frenchman’s rumoured departure this summer.
I Rossoneri will reportedly sell the 29-year-old, who is currently their club captain, at the end of the campaign if he refuses to extend his contract, as his current deal is set to expire in June 2026.
Maignan was due to sign a new €5m-a-year contract with add-ons following discussions between his representatives and Milan, but according to Gazzetta, recent performances have seen the club lower their offer to €4.5m per season.
Unsurprisingly, the 30-time France international has been reluctant to put pen-to-paper ever since, and if Milan are unable to convince him to sign, they’ll be forced to facilitate a sale and look elsewhere.
A move for Verbruggen will likely come at a hefty cost, however. This is mainly due to the fact that this contract runs until the summer of 2028, along with there being interest from big-spending Premier League giants Manchester United.
Also in the report, Lille’s Lucas Chevalier and Atalanta’s Marco Carnesecchi are listed as goalkeeping targets for Sergio Conceicao’s side.
Chevalier, who sat on the bench as Maignan started for France against Croatia during the most recent international window, has solidified himself as Lille’s number one over the past three seasons and is rated between €30m and €40m.
As for Carnesecchi, at 24-years-old, he is seen as one of the brightest goalkeeping talents within the Italian game and has impressed in both Serie A and the Champions League this term. Like Verbruggen and Chevalier though, the 6 ft 5 in stopper will almost certainly cost Milan a pretty penny.
