Harry Kane says Inter ‘celebrated like they won the tie’ after their 2-1 win over Bayern Munich in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals on Tuesday but insisted that it’s still ‘all to play for’.
Inter Milan claimed an impressive 2-1 win over Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie on Tuesday evening to put themselves in the driving seat ahead of next Wednesday’s second leg at the San Siro.
The Bavarians could’ve taken the lead on the 26-minute mark through the usually lethal Harry Kane, however the England international failed to convert the golden opportunity presented to him by Michael Olise, with his effort slamming the outside of the post.
12 minutes later, down the other end, Lautaro Martinez struck Nerazzurri in front with a sumptuous first-time finish using the outside of his boot.
Thomas Muller drew the hosts level after 85 minutes, but Inter quickly reclaimed their one-goal advantage three minutes later, as Davide Frattesi rounded off a lovely counterattack with another fine first-time effort.
Speaking to members of the media following the full-time whistle, Bayern’s Kane praised Simone Inzaghi’s side, labelling them as ‘a good team’, but claimed that they ‘celebrated like they won the tie’ at the end of the match.
Harry Kane: Inter “Celebrated Like They Won The Tie”
“It doesn’t happen very often, but it’s the life of a striker. Sometimes it does. One of those,” Kane said in regards to his first-half miss at the Allianz Arena in Munich on Tuesday.
“I’ve started too far out, and it came out of the post. There were a couple of half chances in the second half as well. You have to take the highs and the lows. The good thing is I’m getting chances, and I think it’s a positive feeling.
He continued: “Tough game. Inter are a very good team, but I think we were in control for large spells, especially in the second half. I thought it was a dominant performance.
“It’s disappointing to concede the way we did. Obviously, it leaves a bad feeling. We always have to believe we can turn it around. We’re a dangerous team against any opposition. I know they celebrated like they won the tie at the end, but it’s all to play for. It’s one goal and 90 minutes to play.”
A disappointing result last night but lots of good things we can take from the game. Tie isn’t over! All to play for next week. 💪 pic.twitter.com/saKAMmUPaR
