Two-time Italian champions Fiorentina will reportedly activate a one-year contract extension for David de Gea after an impressive debut season in Florence.

Fiorentina Set To Activate David De Gea Contract Extension

Football transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Fiorentina are set to activate a one-year extension in David de Gea’s contract following an impressive debut campaign at Stadio Artemio Franchi.

He wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “Fiorentina are set to activate the option to extend David de Gea’s contract for one more season.

“After excellent performances this season, de Gea’s contract will now be valid until June 2026.”

De Gea, now 34, joined the two-time Italian champions last summer after being released by Premier League giants Manchester United at the end of the 2022/23 season.

Despite spending over a year away from the field of play, the Spaniard quickly established himself as the club’s number one ahead of Pietro Terracciano. He made his debut against Puskas Akademia in the UEFA Conference League play-off round, where he saved a penalty to help send his side through to the league phase of the competition.

Since then, he has made a total of 28 Serie A appearances for the Florence-based outfit, in which he has conceded just 29 goals, kept 10 clean sheets, and even registered an assist.

He also starred in Fiorentina’s 2-2 draw against Milan on Saturday evening. The 45-time Spain international made four saves throughout the match, notably denying Tijjani Reijnders and Christian Pulisic with a fine double stop.

Up next for De Gea and co. is a return to continental action, as they travel to Slovenia to take on Celje at Stadion Z’dežele in the first leg of their UEFA Conference League quarter-final tie.

They return to league play on Sunday with a home clash against relegation battlers Parma, where they’ll look to claim a crucial three points in their bid to secure European qualification for a fourth successive season.
