Federico Pastorello, the agent of Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret, provided updates on his client’s contract situation during an interview at the farewell event for Pepito Rossi. Meret’s current deal is set to expire at the end of the season, and while an automatic renewal clause was activated last year, fresh negotiations are now required to secure his future with the club.
Pastorello began by praising Meret’s qualities as a goalkeeper. “Anyone who knows Alex knows he has always been a complete goalkeeper. He is considered one of the most technical in Europe. In Naples, some have criticized him excessively at times, but he is mentally very strong and relies on hard work and consistency as his strengths,” he said.
Reflecting on Meret’s journey at Napoli, Pastorello acknowledged the occasional doubts surrounding his position but emphasized his growth. “Now he’s in his sixth season at Napoli. He has played in the Champions League multiple times and won a Scudetto. Perhaps he was questioned in certain moments by some fans—we respect that, though sometimes people get fixated. Alex improves year after year, and it will always be like this,” he added.
On the topic of contract renewal, Pastorello expressed optimism about reaching an agreement with Napoli. “There is an open, sincere, and direct dialogue with the club. Both the player and the club want to renew. Of course, there are economic factors and real negotiations involved,” he explained. “We have a meeting scheduled for the end of the month, and I believe we’ll find a solution for the agreement. We’re optimistic, but it always takes two to make it happen. However, the gap between us is so small now that I think we’ll reach a positive conclusion.”
