Fiorentina and Moise Kean Condemn Racist Abuse After Inter Match

Start

Fiorentina striker Moise Kean became the target of racist abuse on social media following his team’s 2-1 defeat to Inter Milan at San Siro. Despite the intense on-field action, which included controversial refereeing decisions, the post-match events overshadowed the game as Kean faced a barrage of offensive messages on his Instagram account.

The abuse came after Kean’s performance in the match, with some fans flooding his account with racially charged insults. In response, the Italian forward took a strong stand by sharing screenshots of the hateful messages on his Instagram stories. Accompanying the images, he expressed his disgust with vomiting emojis and the caption, “Still in 2025,” highlighting the ongoing issue of racism in football. As a further statement against the abuse, Kean changed his Instagram profile picture and bio to feature an image of a monkey, turning the hateful symbol into a tool to discredit and mock his abusers.

Fiorentina quickly issued an official statement condemning the attacks and standing firmly by their player. The club declared: “Fiorentina and everyone at the club express their full support for Moise Kean, who was subjected to severe racist attacks on social media after the match against Inter in Milan. The individuals responsible for these acts have been reported to the appropriate authorities.” This decisive action underscores Fiorentina’s commitment to combating racism and supporting their players.

Kean has previously been a victim of similar incidents throughout his career, reflecting a broader issue that continues to plague football despite efforts to eradicate it.
