Kean’s Fiorentina Resurgence Leaves Juventus with Regrets

Start

Moise Kean’s golden run of form continues to impress as he notched another remarkable performance, scoring a brace against Inter Milan to bring his season tally to 15 goals in 22 league appearances (19 in all competitions). This achievement sets a new personal record for the 24-year-old Italian striker in Europe’s top five leagues, surpassing his previous best of 13 goals with PSG in Ligue 1 during the 2020/21 season.

Calciomercato report how when Juventus sold Kean to Fiorentina for €18 million last summer, it was believed to be a shrewd piece of business. However, considering Kean’s current form and Dusan Vlahovic’s struggles, it’s becoming increasingly clear that Juventus may have made a mistake. The comparison between the two strikers is stark, with Kean scoring nearly twice as many goals (15) as Vlahovic (8) in the league this season.

After Fiorentina’s convincing victory over Inter, Kean was asked about potential regrets from his former club. He diplomatically avoided controversy, stating, “I don’t know what you’re talking about. I’ve found a team that believes in me and gives me confidence. I feel great in Florence.”

Kean’s performances have not gone unnoticed by Italy’s national team coach Luciano Spalletti. Last October, Spalletti praised Kean’s potential: “For many years, it’s been said that Kean will become a great player, but he hasn’t had the chance to play consistently. He has all the qualities – physicality, strength, he makes good runs, and is technically sufficient, though there’s room for improvement. He has everything to be a national team player.”

However, Kean faces stiff competition for a place in the national team from Mateo Retegui, who currently leads the Serie A scoring charts with one goal more than the former Juventus striker. Spalletti now finds himself in the enviable position of having two in-form strikers to choose from, making it increasingly difficult to leave out a player of Kean’s current caliber.
