Inzaghi: “We Got the Game Wrong, We Deserved to Lose”

Inter Milan suffered a devastating 3-0 loss to Fiorentina in a rescheduled Serie A match at the Stadio Artemio Franchi. The game, originally interrupted in December due to a medical emergency involving Edoardo Bove, resumed with Fiorentina dominating the second half.

Fiorentina’s victory came through goals from Ranieri, who capitalized on a corner kick in the 60th minute, and a double from Kean, who scored with a header in the 68th minute and sealed the win in the final minute of the game, taking advantage of a Dimarco error.

Following the match, Inter manager Simone Inzaghi took full responsibility for the team’s poor performance. In his post-match interview, Inzaghi stated, “We completely got the game wrong, everything was missing. We deserved the defeat, congratulations to Fiorentina. We weren’t good at reacting despite the warning signs already in the first half, I am the first one responsible.”

Inzaghi further elaborated on the team’s shortcomings, saying, “Technically we were insufficient, Fiorentina always managed to defend well. We return home defeated, wounded, with our heads down. But I only know work, there are still many points available, we will start again stronger than before.”

When questioned about the performance of key player Calhanoglu, Inzaghi refrained from singling out individuals, emphasizing the collective nature of the defeat. “I wouldn’t go into analyzing individuals tonight, it was a negative performance at a general level, and I repeat, I am the first one responsible,” he said.

Addressing concerns about the depth of Inter’s squad, Inzaghi expressed contentment with his current roster but acknowledged ongoing challenges. “I am happy with what I have. At this moment we have managed to recover some players: up front Taremi is dealing with a problem since after Lecce and Correa is still out. Talking about squads doesn’t seem appropriate to me: this team has given me so many satisfactions, now it’s right to be angry but we have to try to start again in the best way. There is still a lot at stake to play for,” Inzaghi concluded.

The defeat leaves Inter three points behind league leaders Napoli, while Fiorentina’s impressive victory propels them to fourth place, level on points with Lazio.
