Monza Makes Surprise Move for Free Agent Keita Baldé

Start

In an unexpected turn of events, Serie A side Monza has made a move for former Lazio and Inter Milan forward Keita Baldé. The 29-year-old Senegalese international underwent medical examinations today and is set to begin a trial period with the team coached by Salvatore Bocchetti. The Brianza-based club will assess Baldé’s performance over the next few days before deciding whether to offer him a contract.

Keita Baldé became available on the free agent market after terminating his contract with Turkish club Sivasspor in early January. The well-travelled forward has previously played for several high-profile clubs, including Lazio, Monaco, Inter, Sampdoria, Cagliari, Spartak Moscow, and Espanyol.

This potential signing comes as Monza look to bolster their attacking options following the departure of Daniel Maldini to Atalanta for €10 million. The club’s current offensive lineup includes Andrea Petagna, Dany Mota Carvalho, Gianluca Caprari, Samuele Vignato, and recent arrival Silvere Ganvoula from Young Boys.

Monza’s vice-president and CEO Adriano Galliani has been active in the transfer market, previously considering a return for Mario Balotelli, who ultimately remained at Genoa. The club had also nearly secured a loan deal for Milan’s young talent Francesco Camarda, but Zlatan Ibrahimovic intervened to keep the player at San Siro. Additionally, Monza’s approach for Atalanta’s Serbian striker Vanja Vlahovic was rebuffed.
