Lloyd Kelly, the latest addition to Juventus’ defensive lineup, has expressed his enthusiasm about joining the Italian giants. The English defender, who completed his move from Newcastle United on deadline day, is eager to make his mark in Serie A.
Kelly’s arrival at Juventus comes at a crucial time for the club, which has been grappling with defensive injuries. The Bianconeri secured Kelly on a loan deal with an obligation to buy, signalling their confidence in his potential to bolster their backline.
In his first interview with Juventus TV, Kelly shared his excitement about being part of such a prestigious club. “It’s an amazing feeling to be part of this club, you know, the history behind it,” he said. “The club as a whole is huge in Italy, I think every player knows what it means to wear this jersey.”
Describing his playing style, Kelly emphasized his love for defending and his eagerness to contribute to the team’s success. “I’d describe myself as a player who wants to get on the ball, who loves defending – the one vs one duels, I thrive on those situations,” he explained. “I put my body on the line and as a defender, you want to keep clean sheets, so that’s another aim of mine.”
Kelly acknowledges the challenges that come with moving to a new league and adapting to a different style of play. He had a brief conversation with Juventus head coach Thiago Motta and is looking forward to more in-depth discussions about the team’s tactics and expectations.
“Of course it’s a quick transition, so I want to adapt to the football, the playing style, the way he wants to play and the way he wants his players to play for this club,” Kelly stated. He emphasized his readiness to face the challenge head-on, saying, “I’m excited. Of course, it’s going to be different, I’m going to have to adapt quickly but I’m looking forward to the challenge.”
