Hellas Verona’s midfield maestro Suat Serdar is set for an extended spell on the sidelines following an injury sustained in the recent match against Monza. The German midfielder’s discomfort was evident when he pulled up late in the first half at the U-Power Stadium, and subsequent medical examinations have confirmed the severity of the injury.
The club’s medical report reveals that Serdar has suffered a grade two strain to his left rectus femoris muscle. While the exact recovery time is yet to be determined, it’s unlikely that Serdar will return to action before 40 days. This setback mirrors a similar injury he experienced at the start of the season against Napoli on August 18, which kept him out for two months.
The timing couldn’t be worse for Verona and manager Paolo Zanetti, who are already grappling with a depleted midfield following the departures of Belahyane to Lazio and Dani Silva to Danish side Midtjylland. To compound matters, Duda is still serving a suspension and will miss the upcoming crucial match against Atalanta at the Bentegodi stadium.
Verona’s woes extend beyond the midfield, with forward Dailon Livramento also joining the injury list. The Cape Verdean striker suffered an edema in his right rectus abdominis during the Monza match. This attack-minded setback is further exacerbated by Casper Tengstedt’s ongoing absence due to an ankle injury, which is expected to keep him out for at least another month.
The club has moved to address these gaps by bringing in Niasse and Bernede to bolster the midfield. Niasse has already made his debut, featuring in the second half against Monza, while Bernede’s signing from Lausanne was finalized just before the transfer window closed.
As Verona prepares to face Atalanta this Saturday, Zanetti finds himself in a precarious position, with limited options in both midfield and attack.
