Venezia, currently struggling in 19th place in Serie A, are making a bold move in the final hours of the transfer window. The Italian club has reportedly entered negotiations with former AS Monaco striker Wissam Ben Yedder, offering the 34-year-old French international a contract.
Le Parisien report how Ben Yedder, who has been without a club since his contract with Monaco expired last June, could provide a much-needed boost to Venezia’s attacking options. The experienced forward boasts an impressive goal-scoring record, having netted 118 times in 201 appearances for Monaco across all competitions.
However, Ben Yedder’s potential return to professional football comes amid a turbulent period in his personal life. The striker has faced legal issues related to sexual misconduct, including a two-year suspended prison sentence for sexual assault while intoxicated. Despite these challenges, Ben Yedder’s judicial supervision does not prevent him from resuming his professional career.
In an effort to address his personal issues and prepare for a return to football, Ben Yedder reportedly underwent rehabilitation in Nice and has been working on regaining match fitness at a specialized centre.
