In a significant transfer move, Atalanta has successfully secured the services of Daniel Maldini from Monza. The talented Italian playmaker is set to don the iconic black and blue stripes, marking a new chapter in his promising career under the guidance of Gian Piero Gasperini.
Gianluca Di Marzio reports that the deal, which has been in the works for several weeks, was finalised after intense negotiations between the two clubs. Atalanta’s pursuit of Maldini intensified following an injury to Ademola Lookman and the impending departure of Nicolo Zaniolo to Fiorentina. The Bergamo-based club saw Maldini as the perfect solution to bolster their attacking options.
The transfer fee is reported to be in the range of 13-14 million euros, a figure that reflects Maldini’s potential and his impressive performances for Monza this season. Interestingly, AC Milan, Maldini’s former club, will benefit from this move as well. The Rossoneri are set to receive 50% of the transfer fee, amounting to approximately 6.5-7 million euros, thanks to a clause in the player’s contract when he moved to Monza.
Maldini’s arrival at Atalanta comes on the back of a strong start to the season with Monza. The 23-year-old has featured in 20 league matches, contributing three goals and an assist. His performances have not gone unnoticed, earning him his first cap for the Italian national team in October 2024.
For Atalanta, this acquisition represents more than just a replacement for departing players. Maldini brings with him the pedigree of one of Italian football’s most illustrious families, combined with his own unique skill set. His versatility, capable of playing as a trequartista, second striker, or offensive midfielder, aligns perfectly with Gasperini’s tactical flexibility.
