“We Want to Go All the Way”: Inzaghi’s Inter Milan Eyes Champions League Glory

Start

Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi has set his sights on Champions League glory following his team’s impressive 3-0 victory over Monaco, which secured their place in the Round of 16 as the fourth-ranked team overall. In a post-match interview, Inzaghi praised his squad’s performance and outlined the club’s ambitious goals for the remainder of the season.

Reflecting on Inter’s journey so far, Inzaghi said, “I congratulated the team; we’ve played eight important matches. It’s been a great run, not to be taken for granted. Just look at the standings to see that some very big teams have been left out of the top 8. Credit to the boys, they’ve done something extraordinary.”

The coach made no attempt to downplay Inter’s aspirations, stating, “The objective now is to go all the way in the Champions League and in every competition, although there are opponents who want to do the same. I’ve been saying this since July 13th. There’s no superstition here; I’m the coach of a great club. You know what it means to represent Inter in the world; we’ve competed for trophies in my four years here. There’s great ambition, and we want to continue like this.”

Inzaghi also praised Denzel Dumfries’ performance, noting, “We know him; he’s always scored goals in these years, both for Inter and for the Netherlands. Today he’s in great form, and we’re trying to make the most of it. The wing-backs in my teams score goals.”

Looking ahead to the Round of 16, Inzaghi acknowledged the challenges of the new format: “We’ll face either a Dutch team or an Italian one. The most difficult thing was preparing for this match with this standings situation. The format? It’s more demanding for the players but also for the coaches because we have to study eight opponents.”

The coach also took the opportunity to highlight the club’s youth development, mentioning the debut of a young player in attack: “Everyone was ready, except in attack, where we gave a debut to a young player who gave us great satisfaction. And it’s a certification of the excellent work that the youth sector is doing.”
