Inter Milan Reach Agreement with Villarreal for Buchanan Transfer

Start

Inter Milan and Villarreal have reached an agreement for the loan transfer of Tajon Buchanan, marking a significant move in the final days of the January transfer window. The Canadian winger, who joined Inter last year from Club Brugge for €7.3 million, is set to embark on a new challenge in La Liga.

Calciomercato report how Buchanan’s time at Inter has been marred by setbacks, including a tibia fracture that sidelined him for a significant portion of the 2024-2025 season. With limited playing time and opportunities, both the player and the club have been exploring options to secure more regular first-team action for the 25-year-old.

The agreement between Inter and Villarreal includes a loan deal with Villarreal covering Buchanan’s salary. Importantly, the Spanish club has also secured an option to buy the player at the end of the loan period, potentially making the move permanent in the summer transfer window.

This development comes after several clubs, including Torino, Ajax, Fiorentina, and Monza, had expressed interest in Buchanan. However, Villarreal ultimately emerged as the frontrunner, swiftly concluding negotiations with Inter.

Since joining Inter, Buchanan has struggled to make a significant impact, accumulating only 163 minutes of play across all competitions this season. His appearances have been limited to six in Serie A and one in the Coppa Italia, with only a single start to his name.

The move to Villarreal presents an opportunity for Buchanan to rejuvenate his career and gain the consistent playing time he needs. For Inter, engaged in multiple competitions, the loan allows them to provide Buchanan with the playing time they couldn’t guarantee, while potentially setting up a profitable future transfer.
