Manchester City Eyeing Douglas Luiz, Cambiaso Move Won’t Happen Until Summer

Start

As the January transfer window progresses, Manchester City are contemplating further additions to their squad, with a particular focus on strengthening their midfield. The Athletic report how need for reinforcement in this area has become more pressing since Rodri’s severe knee injury in September left a significant void in the team’s central area.

The Premier League champions are currently exploring various options to address this issue. One name that has emerged as a potential target is Douglas Luiz, currently playing for Juventus. The 26-year-old Brazilian international, who was previously on City’s books from 2017 to 2019, has struggled to make a significant impact in Italy since his move from Aston Villa last summer, featuring in only 16 matches so far.

City’s approach for Luiz would likely be in the form of a loan deal until the end of the season, without an obligation to buy. However, this arrangement might face obstacles as Juventus reportedly prefers either a permanent sale or a loan with a mandatory purchase clause. For any deal to materialize, Juventus would need to alter their stance before the February 3 transfer deadline.

While Luiz is under consideration, he is not the only midfielder on City’s radar. The club is keeping its options open as they deliberate on whether to strengthen this position.

Meanwhile, Manchester City is in the process of finalizing deals for three other players: centre-backs Abdukodir Khusanov from Lens and Vitor Reis from Palmeiras, as well as striker Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt. Despite reported interest in Juventus left-back Andrea Cambiaso, it seems unlikely that City will pursue this option in the current transfer window.
