Roma have reportedly reached a personal agreement with Ajax defender Devyne Rensch, setting the stage for a potential transfer in the January window. According to recent reports from Gazzetta dello Sport, the Giallorossi have agreed terms with the 21-year-old Dutch international on a contract that would keep him at the Stadio Olimpico until 2029.
The Serie A club’s initial offer of €5 million was rejected by Ajax, who are seeking a higher fee for their young talent. However, Roma’s negotiating position is strengthened by the fact that Rensch’s current contract with the Eredivisie giants is set to expire in June 2025. If a deal isn’t struck in this transfer window, the right-back could potentially leave Ajax on a free transfer in the summer.
Roma’s sporting director Tiago Pinto is said to be working diligently to bridge the gap between the club’s valuation and Ajax’s asking price, which is believed to be in the region of €9-10 million. The Giallorossi are expected to return with an improved offer soon, possibly increasing their bid by around €2 million.
Rensch, who has made 13 appearances in the Eredivisie this season, is seen as a promising addition to Roma’s defensive lineup. His versatility and potential have caught the eye of manager José Mourinho, who is keen to bolster his squad for the second half of the season.
