Inzaghi: “Lautaro Is going through a phase….”

Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi analysed his team’s 2-0 victory against Como in a post-match interview. He began by praising Como for their excellent performance, noting that they encountered a solid Inter team that conceded very little. Inzaghi acknowledged that the pitch conditions were not ideal, which affected their play, but emphasized that they knew they could win the match in the second half.

When asked about Marcus Thuram’s performance, Inzaghi commended the player’s hard work with the coaching staff, highlighting his quick adaptation and current excellent form. He stressed the importance of Thuram continuing his positive contribution to the team.

Regarding Davide Frattesi’s future at Inter, Inzaghi expressed confidence in the player’s long-term prospects with the club. He mentioned the competition for places but praised Frattesi’s work ethic and recent 90-minute performance. Inzaghi emphasized the need to make choices for the benefit of Inter and to focus on taking things step by step rather than fixating on league standings.

Addressing Lautaro Martinez’s recent form, Inzaghi defended the striker, stating, “It’s just a phase. I can only say that on Monday in Rome, he was one of the most positive players. Strikers need to score goals, but he’s doing a great job. We ask a lot from our forwards. Last year when he shot, he scored. Now he’s not so lucky, but he must continue to work like this.”

Inzaghi also discussed the team’s rotation strategy, noting the high frequency of matches and the need to alternate players, particularly in attack and midfield. He acknowledged some struggles in defense due to injuries, with players like Bastoni, Bisseck, and Carlos Augusto seeing increased playing time.

In the press conference, Inzaghi commented on the competitive nature of the league, saying, “A very high points tally is being maintained, but I had said it would be an open, exciting championship. All teams are winning, and there are teams like Como that came to play a great game at San Siro.”

When asked about receiving compliments from foreign coaches but not from Italian ones, Inzaghi responded, “We know where we are and how people think. I spoke to Fabregas before; he complimented us. I told him to continue like this. He played here not in a speculative way, but with three attackers and two offensive wing players. I was very wary of this match; we had some absences in defense. It was a game that required concentration. In the first half, not helped by the pitch and Como, we weren’t as clean as usual. Then we raised the intensity.”
