Davide Calabria’s Milan future in doubt as Como show Interest

Start

Davide Calabria’s future at AC Milan appears increasingly uncertain as the club captain faces a challenging season. The 27-year-old right-back, who has been with Milan since his youth academy days, finds himself in a constant rotation with summer signing Emerson Royal from Tottenham. This situation has limited Calabria’s playing time, with only nine appearances across all competitions this season, totalling 476 minutes on the pitch.

Calciomcercato report that the relationship between Calabria and the club has been further strained by a recent incident during a European match against Red Star Belgrade. Calabria was substituted in the 83rd minute to a chorus of whistles from the San Siro crowd. Adding to the tension, he chose not to approach coach Paulo Fonseca as he left the field, instead skirting the bench along the technical area boundary, seemingly ignoring his manager.

These developments point towards a potential parting of ways between Calabria and the club that nurtured him from 2007 to 2015 in their youth ranks. Despite his deep connection to Milan, Calabria’s current contract, which pays him 2 million euros annually, is set to expire on June 30, 2025. There have been few discussions between the parties regarding an extension, and even the player’s proposal to maintain his current salary doesn’t seem to be facilitating negotiations or convincing Milan’s management to retain him.

Amidst this uncertainty, Como has emerged as a potential suitor for Calabria. The ambitious club, which is already close to securing goalkeeper Jean Butez and has shown interest in Napoli’s Rafa Marin, is looking to revolutionize its defense. According to market expert Alfredo Pedullà, there are ongoing contacts between Calabria’s entourage and Como’s management.

This interest from Como presents a new option for Calabria as he contemplates his future beyond Milan. With his playing time diminishing and his relationship with the club seemingly at a crossroads, a move to Como could offer Calabria a fresh start while allowing him to remain in the Lombardy region.
