Inter’s Marotta: “Scudetto Race? Atalanta are contenders….”

Inter Milan president Giuseppe Marotta, speaking at the Gazzetta Sports Awards, reflected on his journey through the world of football up to his arrival at Inter, before delving into the current season’s Scudetto race.

Discussing his career path, Marotta stated, “Being a president is an honour, doing it at Inter even more so. I started at Atalanta and then moved to Sampdoria, starting from the provinces to reach clubs like Juventus and Inter, which are the pinnacle.”

When asked about Atalanta’s role in the title race, Marotta was full of praise: “Atalanta is a worldwide example of a virtuous model. They have achieved a winning mentality, which is not easy. There will be pressures during the season, and they will know how to manage them. They are the hare, we are the hunters: they will be among the main candidates for the Scudetto.”

Marotta also shared his thoughts on Inter’s current manager, Simone Inzaghi: “Simone understands the dynamics of the locker room, having been a player himself. These are advantages, but certainly not the main reason for his success. He should be counted among the best coaches: he has grown in all activities, he was good before and has become excellent now. He has gained experience, and this leads him to be more prepared in his decisions.”

The Inter president didn’t forget to mention Antonio Conte, now at the helm of title rivals Napoli: “He has won a lot and is a very skilled professional. Compared to other situations, he starts with an advantage. He lives for football, just like Inzaghi and Gasperini. The coach counts for a lot, but behind a great team, there is always a great club… Atalanta is a prime example of this.”
