Inter Milan continue to impress under the leadership of CEO Beppe Marotta, who recently spoke at the Gazzetta Sports Awards. Marotta emphasized the importance of maintaining a grounded perspective despite the team’s successes, stating, “We must not get too carried away, but the signs are very positive.” He expressed confidence in head coach Simone Inzaghi, noting that he has evolved significantly since taking over the team.
The Nerazzurri’s recent performance has been nothing short of remarkable. Following their Serie A title win in the 2023-24 season, many viewed it as a peak achievement. However, Marotta believes the team is still on an upward trajectory. He pointed out their impressive victory against Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico, a venue where they had previously struggled. This time, they showcased their authority and confidence on the field.
Marotta attributed this growth to a strong work ethic and strategic planning during the summer transfer window. The arrivals of players like Taremi and Zielinski have bolstered the squad, enhancing Inzaghi’s options. “At this start of the season, it is well applied that a culture of work and competence always leads to improvement,” he explained.
Currently sitting third in Serie A and just three points behind leaders Atalanta, Inter is also in contention for advancing to the Champions League knockout stages without needing playoffs. However, Marotta cautioned against complacency: “We must not get too carried away, but the signs so far are very positive,” reiterating that while the outlook is promising, there is still much work to be done.
Looking ahead, Marotta aims for Inter to secure their second consecutive Scudetto and emphasized that teams like Juventus and AC Milan should not be discounted from the title race yet. He acknowledged that Atalanta is a formidable competitor and praised their recent success in the Europa League as evidence of their strength. “We are talking about an important reality in our football and world football thanks to the club and its management,” he noted.
Marotta also commended Inzaghi for his development as a coach. “When he arrived at Inter he was good, but now he has become truly exceptional,” he remarked, highlighting how Inzaghi has grown from being good to truly exceptional. He noted that Inzaghi’s experience as a former player contributes significantly to his coaching effectiveness.
In addition to his reflections on Inzaghi’s growth, Marotta stated, “We have an obligation to compete at our best in all competitions,” reinforcing Inter’s ambition for both domestic and European success. He added, “We’re obligated to think that way. Then if another team is better than us, hats off to them; we’ll congratulate them. But Inter cannot think about the minimum or settle.”
Marotta concluded with a vision for the future: “We have to pursue success—but also with respect to sustainability.” He emphasized that ambition is key for Inter: “We say that we’re not the best, but we’re the most ambitious because we want to give everything.”
