Following AC Milan’s 2-1 victory over Red Star Belgrade in the UEFA Champions League, head coach Paulo Fonseca made headlines with his strong criticism of the team’s performance and attitude. Despite the win, Fonseca expressed his dissatisfaction with the players’ approach to the match in a post-game interview.
Sky Sport Italia report that the day after the match, the team reported to Milanello for their usual training session. Players who participated in the Champions League fixture underwent a recovery session, while the rest of the squad engaged in regular training exercises.
Contrary to expectations, there was no confrontation or special meeting between Fonseca and the squad to address his public comments. The training session proceeded as normal, with players completing their routines and then departing after lunch.
Notably, no high-ranking club officials or directors were present at Milanello during the training session. The absence of figures like Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Geoffrey Moncada, Giorgio Furlani, or Paolo Scaroni suggests that, despite Fonseca’s strong words, there is no immediate crisis within the club.
This business-as-usual approach indicates that the club may be allowing time for reflection before addressing the issues raised by Fonseca. It remains to be seen how this situation will develop and whether it will impact Milan’s upcoming fixtures, including their remaining Serie A matches against Genoa, Hellas Verona, and Roma before the winter break.
