Roma’s manager Claudio Ranieri addressed the media in a press conference on the eve of their Europa League match against Braga. The Giallorossi are set to take the field tomorrow, with Bryan Cristante still side-lined due to a left ankle sprain.
Ranieri provided updates on the team’s condition, noting that everyone except Cristante has recovered. Both Artem Dovbyk and Zeki Celik are available for selection. He praised Matias Soulé as the future of the club, acknowledging the young player’s expectations after a wonderful year.
When asked about the importance of cup competitions compared to the league, Ranieri emphasized the need to give maximum effort in every match to build team spirit. He stated, “We must give our all in every competition and we’ll see what we can achieve.”
Regarding Dovbyk, Ranieri stressed the importance of the player regaining full fitness after injuries and illness. He explained, “We need to understand how to serve him best, but he also needs to make himself available. The first thing is for him to return to 100%, because otherwise he doesn’t perform.”
On the topic of Pellegrini’s future, Ranieri admitted, “I haven’t spoken to him about his future or contract yet. I don’t know what he wants to do in the future. He’s a deserving lad, I see him more serene, he’s training well.”
Dybala’s status for the upcoming match remains uncertain, with Ranieri stating he would make a decision after evaluating the previous game and training sessions.
Ranieri also touched on his dual role as manager and his involvement in planning for the club’s future. He revealed, “With Ghisolfi, we’re thinking about everything: the transfer market, the future, and even the next manager to a small extent. We’re considering it.”
When asked about the profile of the next manager, Ranieri joked, “We’re looking for a good one. Let’s hope we don’t make a mistake.”
Regarding tactical considerations for the Braga match, Ranieri kept his options open, mentioning potential replacements for Angelino and the possibility of switching to a four-man defense.
Finally, Ranieri shared his expectations for the match against Braga: “I expect Braga to play good football, typical Portuguese style. They play vertically, and I know Moutinho, who was one of my players. I expect a beautiful, hard-fought match tomorrow.”
