Inter Milan’s journey in the UEFA Champions League for 2024 came to an abrupt end after a narrow 1-0 defeat against Bayer Leverkusen. The match, held at the BayArena, saw Nordi Mukiele score a dramatic late goal, marking Inter’s first loss of the season in the competition.
Following the match, head coach Simone Inzaghi addressed the media, acknowledging that it was not one of Inter’s strongest performances. “It was not one of our best games, but we faced a truly valuable opponent. They controlled the match a bit too much, and we lacked some quality in the final 25 meters,” he stated.
Inzaghi expressed his respect for Leverkusen, saying, “I have great respect for Leverkusen, who are deserving of everything they have achieved. We did too little; we only threatened them once when we hit the crossbar early on. We needed to add more quality to our play.”
Despite the disappointment of losing their unbeaten record, Inzaghi remained optimistic about his team’s position in the tournament. “It’s a shame to lose our invincibility, but we are still among the top eight teams. There is regret, but we will move forward with our heads held high,” he concluded.
