Paris Saint-Germain are dominating Ligue 1 but struggling in the Champions League, facing the risk of early elimination. As the January transfer window approaches, the French giants are revisiting their interest in a familiar target: Victor Osimhen.
Luis Enrique’s squad is currently one of the biggest disappointments in this season’s UEFA Champions League, having secured only 4 points from their first five matches. With three games remaining against Salzburg, Manchester City, and Stuttgart (the latter two scheduled for January 2025), concerns are growing about PSG’s offensive capabilities, having scored just 3 goals in their European campaign so far.
While wingers Bradley Barcola and Ousmane Dembélé have been performing well, the central attacking positions have been problematic. Randal Kolo Muani’s contributions have been insufficient, and Gonçalo Ramos has only recently returned from a long-term ankle injury. This situation has prompted PSG to consider reinforcing their attack in January, with former Napoli striker Osimhen emerging as a prime target.
According to Daniel Riolo of RMC Sport, PSG is determined to reactivate their pursuit of Victor Osimhen, who is currently on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli. PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has expressed openness to new acquisitions, stating, “If an opportunity presents itself, we will evaluate it.” Riolo asserts that Luis Enrique is now keen on reinforcements, having “realized his mistake” in not pushing for Osimhen last summer.
Last summer, PSG had aggressively pursued Osimhen and his Napoli teammate Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, but the deal fell through due to Napoli’s steep asking price of €220 million for both players. While Kvaratskhelia remained in Naples, Osimhen renewed his contract before being loaned to Galatasaray.
In Turkey, Osimhen has made an impressive impact, scoring 9 goals in 12 appearances across all competitions and forming a formidable partnership with former Napoli teammate Dries Mertens.
Despite Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk’s insistence on Osimhen’s commitment to stay until the end of the season, the possibility of a January move exists due to a release clause in his contract. When Osimhen renewed with Napoli, a €75 million release clause was included, valid only for non-Italian clubs.
With Manchester United also showing interest in Osimhen, PSG sees the Nigerian striker as potentially crucial for their European campaign revival. The reduced price tag compared to last year has reignited Luis Enrique’s interest, making Osimhen a prime target for PSG’s January transfer plans.
