In a pre-match press conference ahead of Parma’s upcoming clash with Lazio, manager Fabio Pecchia shared his thoughts on team strategy and the challenges they face. The focus of the discussion centered around the team’s defensive vulnerabilities, particularly concerning goals conceded from high balls.
Pecchia addressed concerns about the team’s defensive performance, stating, “For Retegui’s goal, we started from a lost ball and had lost our markings. We need to pay more attention. We’re conceding a few more crosses, but we’re in line with the Serie A average.”
When questioned about potentially adopting a more conservative approach against Lazio, known for their strong wing play, Pecchia emphasized the importance of balance. He explained, “Of course, we work on the lateral chains and need sacrifice in midfield as well. But we must maintain a certain balance. In the second half against Atalanta, we played with the same formation and players with just one change.”
The manager expressed confidence in his team’s ability to adapt, regardless of the personnel on the field. “I believe we can maintain balance regardless of the men on the field, but whoever plays must be in the best mental and physical condition to face the match,” Pecchia asserted.
Looking ahead to the Lazio match, Pecchia anticipates a challenging encounter. He described the opponents as “a team of possession, vertical play,” and took a moment to commend Lazio and their coach Baroni, whose work he believes speaks for itself.
Pecchia concluded with insights on how to approach such high-stakes matches: “In these games, yes, you need to run as has happened many times, but above all, you need to do the right thing at the right moment with the right personality.”
